Stablecoins can earn returns through lending accounts, protocol supply markets and liquidity strategies. Their intended dollar peg describes the asset, not the earning product. A useful decision starts with the source of return, the balance you plan to commit and when you need access. The sections below compare those routes and explain Ledn's current stablecoin Growth model.

Explore Ledn’s USDC and USDT Growth Accounts if an administered stablecoin lending account fits your objective.

A quoted stablecoin return may exceed a particular bank rate, but not universally. Compare the same period, balance, costs and currency exposure. Insured bank deposits and crypto lending accounts do not provide the same legal protections.

Participants typically utilize several distinct pathways to generate yield, ranging from centralized lending to decentralized protocols. Whether utilizing CeFi platforms, exploring DeFi yield farming, or deploying assets in exchange-based accounts, it is critical to evaluate the distinct operational and counterparty risks inherent to each.

Here is an educational overview of how stablecoin yield generation functions, the varying risk profiles associated with different lending methods, and what to monitor as global regulatory frameworks take shape.

Can You Earn Interest on Stablecoins?

Yes. A provider can use stablecoin funding to make loans and share borrower interest with account holders. Ledn's USDC and USDT Growth funding supports Bitcoin-collateralized retail loans, not an institutional trading-firm book. On-chain supply markets and trading pools use different mechanisms with their own contract and liquidity exposures.

The US GENIUS Act became law in July 2025. Its issuer-yield prohibition applies to specified stablecoin issuers paying holders solely for holding, using or retaining the token. Token issuance and a third-party lending arrangement are separate activities; the statute does not establish that every platform product is either permitted or prohibited everywhere.

Ways to Earn Interest on Stablecoins

Crypto Lending Platforms

How it works: You supply stablecoins to a lender, which funds loans under its product terms. Borrower interest supports your return. The borrower type and collateral policy depend on the provider.

With Ledn, the funding goes toward its Bitcoin-backed retail loan book. That supplies dollars or stablecoins to borrowers using BTC as collateral. The deposited stablecoins and the borrower's pledged Bitcoin serve different purposes, so do not describe the entire arrangement as assets simply sitting untouched in custody.

A provider handles administration and collateral monitoring, which can reduce the work required of a depositor. You still depend on its credit, liquidity and operational management. Stablecoin issuer reserves support the token's redemption model; they do not insure a separate lender's repayment obligation.

Stablecoin Savings Accounts

How it Works: You deposit stablecoins into an interest-bearing savings account, where the platform lends them to vetted borrowers to generate returns.

Stablecoin interest accounts function similarly in concept to traditional savings tools, but they operate in an entirely different risk environment to generate those higher yields. Digital asset products are not bank deposits, are not insured by government bodies (such as CDIC or FDIC), and may result in partial or total loss of assets. Because of this lack of insurance, evaluating a platform's security and risk management practices is crucial.

DeFi Yield Farming

How it Works: You provide liquidity to DeFi protocols and earn rewards in return.

Yield farming in decentralized finance (DeFi) allows you to deposit stablecoins into liquidity pools, where they are used for lending or trading. In return, you receive interest or rewards.

Some DeFi platforms offer higher returns than centralized lenders, but they also come with significant risks, such as:

  • Smart contract vulnerabilities
  • Platform exploits
  • Impermanent loss

Rules can affect issuers, interfaces and service providers differently. For a DeFi position, identify the actual market and interface you use, rather than assuming the protocol brand establishes local eligibility or legal protections.

CeFi vs DeFi Yields: What’s the Real Difference?

The three examples below illustrate different ways to price and administer a stablecoin return. They are not a ranking of all markets offered by each protocol. Snapshot yields change, so a rate from April 2026 is not a current offer.

OptionReturn structureDecision-useful distinction
Ledn Growth5% APY first 100,000 USDC/USDT; 6% excessCustodial, variable account rate; retail Bitcoin-backed loan funding
Aave supplyVariable for each asset and networkPool utilization and governance parameters; available liquidity matters to exit
Morpho market or vaultMarket-specific, with vault allocation and fees where applicableIdentify collateral, oracle, liquidation threshold and curator rather than quoting a protocol-wide APY

‍

Ledn publishes account-level marginal balance tiers. Aave supply rates vary with the selected asset, network, utilization and governance parameters. Morpho uses isolated markets; a vault can allocate across markets with curator choices and fees. A protocol name alone therefore does not identify a single USDT APY or withdrawal-liquidity position.

The GENIUS Act's issuer rules should not be turned into an unsupported claim that Aave's GHO or an entire DeFi ecosystem is forbidden from offering every form of yield. The token, legal entity, activity, effective provisions and applicable jurisdiction must be distinguished. Read the statutory text for the issuer provisions.

Connected protocols can still transmit economic or technical problems: a market's collateral, oracle or liquidity dependency can affect its lenders. That is a concrete reason to assess the specific exposure without speculating that a law automatically closes the entire ecosystem.

CeFi Lending Services

How it Works: You deposit stablecoins with a centralized lender, earning fixed or variable interest rates.

CeFi puts administration with a named provider and customer agreement. A disclosed loan model and reports can make a product easier to evaluate, but neither centralization nor the CeFi label guarantees more transparency, higher yields or stronger regulation than every alternative.

Compare the actual controls and disclosures of each option. A legal registration, reserve attestation and collateral policy answer different questions, and none substitutes for the others.

Why Do Stablecoins Earn More Interest Than Banks?

Rates reflect capital demand, available supply, operating costs and the risk lenders accept. Reserve rules for token issuers are not the same as the funding rules for a company lending tokens. Do not attribute every crypto-versus-bank rate difference to an absence of reserve requirements.

Institutional Borrowing Demand

Market makers and trading firms borrow stablecoins for liquidity, arbitrage, and leverage, driving up interest rates.

Different Regulatory Structures

Banks and digital-asset providers operate under different entity- and jurisdiction-specific rules. Identify the legal borrower, customer agreement and recovery rights. Fewer restrictions are not automatically a benefit for the person supplying funds.

Market-Driven Rates

Both bank and crypto rates can respond to market conditions. A DeFi supply rate may update with utilization; a provider can change its quoted account rate. Neither should be extrapolated unchanged through a full year unless the product actually fixes that period.

Risk-Adjusted Returns

A high return can compensate for additional credit or liquidity exposure, or reflect incentives. It is not a measured risk-adjusted return by itself. Separate a dollar-linked asset's peg risk from the account's repayment and access risks.

The Risks of Earning Interest on Stablecoins

While earning interest on digital assets like stablecoins can be lucrative, regulatory uncertainty and market risks remain key factors.

Smart Contract Failure

Smart contracts are a core feature of any DeFi stablecoin interest projects. However, they’re still relatively novel technologies, which experience failures, outages, and exploits. If a smart contract is poorly written, then it can lead to lost funds, with little recourse.

KYC Pressure and Regulatory Risk

Identity checks and eligibility requirements can affect access to account-based products. The GENIUS Act establishes a payment-stablecoin framework, not a universal rule that only a bank can issue any digital asset. Assess the applicable issuer and service rather than treating a token ticker as proof of approval.

Liquidity and Counterparty Risk

A centralized account exposes you to the provider and lending activity defined by its terms. Borrower defaults or market stress can reduce recoveries or delay access. In DeFi, insufficient available liquidity can similarly prevent an immediate withdrawal even without a fixed lockup.

Why Choose Ledn to Earn Interest on Stablecoins?

Ledn's legal schedule currently lists 5% APY on the first 100,000 units of USDC or USDT and 6% on the excess. Growth funding supports Bitcoin-collateralized retail lending. The higher band does not apply to the whole balance, and rates remain variable.

Ledn provides six-monthly Proof of Reserves, including client balance inclusion, plus separately defined Open Book loan metrics. These disclosures help evaluate balances and lending without guaranteeing future repayment.

What Funds Ledn’s Growth Yield

‍

The source of Ledn's Growth return is borrower interest from its Bitcoin-collateralized retail loan book. That is a disclosed business model, not a guarantee that a particular APY is permanently sustainable. Growth is ring-fenced by product and asset type; its stablecoin credit exposure should be distinguished from the custody of borrowers' BTC collateral.

‍

The independent reserve procedure is a point-in-time assessment, not a continuous audit of every financial obligation. Readers can verify their balance inclusion and examine the report's scope and date. Open Book adds defined lending metrics but is not itself an audit or assurance opinion.

‍

A lender must earn enough from its funded loans to cover depositor interest, costs and losses while managing liquidity. That explains why borrower demand and loan performance matter to account pricing. A public company's borrowing cost is not evidence that a different lender can sustain its own advertised yield; compare Ledn's own model and current disclosures instead.

How to Earn Interest on Stablecoins with Ledn

1. Open a Ledn Account

Sign up on the Ledn website and complete the standard identity verification (KYC) process. Be aware that Ledn’s products and services are subject to jurisdictional availability limitations, so you will need to confirm the platform operates in your region.

2. Deposit Stablecoins

Use the current account deposit instructions to identify the supported stablecoin, network and receiving address.

A deposit ordinarily appears in the relevant Transaction balance; move an eligible balance into Growth following the account instructions. Transaction balances are not interest-bearing.

3. Start Earning Interest

Once an eligible balance has entered Growth, interest begins accruing under the account terms. Please note that interest rates are variable and subject to change based on market conditions. Ledn pays out interest monthly, and your earnings are compounded to help maximize your yields.

4. Monitor Your Earnings

Check your balance and interest accrual in the Ledn dashboard.

View Ledn’s Open Book report for transparency on how funds are managed.

5. Withdraw or Reinvest

Request a Growth-to-Transaction transfer before an external withdrawal. Processing, security checks and withdrawal fees apply; flexible access is not a guarantee of immediate arrival.

Keep your assets in the Growth Account to continue generating yield.

Check the effective rate and access before funding

Confirm that the exact product is available for your residence and account type. Note the rate, balance bands, payout asset, fees and any lockup. Check whether a displayed yield includes a temporary promotion or another reward token.

APY already includes the stated compounding effect. A constant 8% APY on 10,000 units corresponds to 800 units over a full year before fees and losses under the assumed conditions; it is not 800 plus another round of monthly compounding. Actual variable-rate results may differ.

Keep funds required for a fixed near-term obligation outside arrangements whose principal or access risk you cannot tolerate.

Verify the destination and network

Use the supported asset and network shown in your account. Check the receiving address, minimum, fees and any required reference. General token support does not mean every chain is accepted.

For Ledn, a Transaction Account and a Growth Account are different. The Transaction balance is not interest-bearing. Follow the current account interface and terms to move an eligible balance into Growth rather than assuming a deposit alone starts earning.

For a USDT-specific walkthrough, see earning interest on USDT.

Reconcile the interest actually paid

Check rate changes, account statements and disclosures. Compare actual interest credited with the applicable balance and period; do not expect a full-year APY as a monthly payment.

Ledn’s public materials describe stablecoin Growth funding as primarily supporting BTC-backed retail loans. That is different from suggesting every deposit is lent to institutional trading firms. Review current disclosures to understand the model and remaining exposure.

Plan the exit

Understand whether you must first move funds between account types and what security, liquidity or operational conditions can affect withdrawal. Flexible terms do not establish an unconditional instant payment guarantee.

In DeFi, ensure you can pay network fees and understand any collateral settings before withdrawing supplied assets. Borrowing against a supplied balance creates additional liquidation considerations.

Regional eligibility: Ledn’s Brazil notice says that from 30 October 2026 new Growth deposits and re-deposits will stop for Brazil clients; existing balances continue earning under the notice. This is a regional change, not a global withdrawal of Growth.

Sources and rate methodology

Reviewed 26 October 2026. Published rates are product-specific, variable and subject to eligibility; hypothetical calculations are labelled. Ledn's legal schedule is the rate source.

Start Earning Interest on your Stablecoins

An idle stablecoin balance can be placed into a lending or other yield arrangement, but the extra return introduces extra exposure. First decide whether the product fits your intended holding period, liquidity needs and capacity for loss.

Ledn may fit an eligible user who wants an administered account linked to a disclosed retail loan book, with reserve reporting and separate loan metrics. Those strengths are specific evaluation points; they do not make the product immune to market or regulatory changes.

Review USDT Growth eligibility and terms, including marginal rates and the withdrawal fee schedule, before opening or funding an account.

FAQs About Earning Interest on Stablecoins

How do I know stablecoins will hold their value?

USDT and USDC target a dollar value, but their reserve composition and direct redemption access differ. Circle reports cash and cash equivalents including short-dated Treasuries; Tether's disclosed mix also includes other assets. Reports provide evidence at a date, not a promise of continuous dollar trading or repayment by a separate lender.

What is the difference between CeFi and DeFi interest accounts?

CeFi: The provider administers lending under its agreement. Ledn publishes marginal rate bands and funds Bitcoin-backed retail loans. Rates can change and credit/custody exposures remain.

DeFi: A specific contract market determines supply returns and liquidity. Aave and Compound differ by deployment and supported asset; technical documentation or community support is not the same as a provider owing you repayment.

What is the typical interest rate for stablecoins?

There is no reliable single rate spanning account-based and on-chain products. Ledn currently quotes 5%/6% marginal bands; a protocol quote belongs to its particular asset, network and market. Reward-token incentives, term conditions and balance caps can change the effective return.

For an illustrative 10,000-token balance held one year at an unchanged 5% APY, the return is 500 tokens before fees or losses. APY already includes the stated compounding effect. A shorter holding period or fixed withdrawal cost reduces the practical benefit.

What are the risk profiles of stablecoin interest accounts?

Earning interest on fiat-backed stablecoins comes with some risks, including platform insolvency, regulatory uncertainty, and market volatility. To minimize risk:

  • Assess the provider’s collateral policy, monitoring and recovery rights; initial overcollateralisation does not eliminate credit risk.
  • Examine current issuer reserve reports and redemption access (for example, USDT and USDC); an attestation is not a comprehensive financial audit.
  • Diversify holdings across multiple platforms
  • Stay updated on stablecoin regulations, as laws may impact lending availability
