Summary

The challenge: BitDriver needed more vehicles, but a bank loan was unlikely and could take 20 to 25 days. Napo did not want to sell the bitcoin he had saved since 2021.

The solution: Napo used a Ledn loan backed by bitcoin to access dollar liquidity using bitcoin as collateral.

The result: BitDriver used the loan to help buy two vehicles in January 2026, repaid it by February 2026, and is preparing to use Ledn again to buy another vehicle.

From taxi driver to bitcoin business owner

Napoleón “Napo” Osorio is the founder of BitDriver, a transport company in El Salvador that accepts bitcoin for private rides, vehicle rentals, and tourism experiences.

Before BitDriver, Napo worked as a banking executive and Uber driver. When El Salvador adopted bitcoin in 2021, he began teaching people how to use it.

“With the adoption of bitcoin in El Salvador, I began educating people about Bitcoin,” Napo said. “This gave me the opportunity to be the first taxi driver to accept it as a payment method.”

That first step became BitDriver.

“BitDriver was born in El Salvador with the idea of accepting payments in bitcoin in exchange for private transport, vehicle rentals, and tourism experiences with a different focus,” Napo said. “Our goal is that visitors and locals can move around the country in a comfortable, safe, and simple way.”

As the company grew, bitcoin became its main source of income.

“As my focus was accepting more payments with bitcoin, this became the main income,” Napo said. “It was 95% bitcoin and 5% cash or card.”

Napo had been saving bitcoin since 2021. He wanted to keep holding it. But BitDriver needed dollars to grow.

“The truth is, I don’t like selling when I need dollars,” he said.

The problem: BitDriver needed more vehicles

BitDriver needed more vehicles for its fleet.

When demand increased during key events, the company had to rent vehicles from third parties so its drivers could work.

“One of the difficulties we had was that when we needed more vehicles, we had to rent from a third party,” Napo said. “This was so our drivers had a tool to work with during key moments and events.”

That solved the short term problem, but it added cost.

“We realized we could not continue that way,” Napo said, “because to a certain point it caused a loss through paying rent to a third party.”

BitDriver needed to buy more vehicles. Napo looked at a bank loan in El Salvador first, but the company did not qualify.

The business met one important requirement: it had monthly income above $5,000. But it did not meet another. Although BitDriver had been operating since 2021, it was only formally legalized in El Salvador in 2023. The bank required three years of formal business records, such as VAT or income tax declarations.

“We thought about taking a bank loan here in the country,” Napo said. “Unfortunately, one of the difficulties was that the company had to have three years that were provable through VAT or income tax declarations.”

The timing also made the bank route less useful. Napo said that even if BitDriver had met all the requirements, a bank loan would have taken 20 to 25 days for approval and funding.

For BitDriver, the bank route was both unavailable and too slow.

Why not sell bitcoin?

Selling bitcoin would have given BitDriver dollars quickly.

But that was not the outcome Napo wanted.

He had built BitDriver around bitcoin payments. He had been saving bitcoin since 2021. He wanted to use the value of that bitcoin without giving it up.

“Frustrated, and with 2026 on top of us, we looked at our saved bitcoin and saw that we could take a loan,” Napo said. “But how? That is where Ledn comes in.”

Ledn gave BitDriver a third option.

Instead of selling bitcoin, Napo could use bitcoin as collateral. BitDriver could access dollar liquidity, buy the vehicles it needed, and keep its bitcoin exposure.

Why Ledn?

Napo had already used Ledn before using it for BitDriver.

“The first loan I did as a test,” he said. “The second was personal. Then the next one occurred to me to do as BitDriver.”

That personal experience mattered. Napo already knew the platform and had seen how quickly Ledn could approve a loan.

He also pointed to Ledn’s platform, the companies supporting it, and its reserve reporting as reasons he felt confident.

“We saw its friendly platform, the companies that backed it, the publication of its reserves, and having used it personally and seeing how quickly they approved my credit, we decided without a doubt to do it with Ledn,” he said.

Ledn loans let bitcoin holders access liquidity without selling bitcoin. There is no credit check. There are no required monthly payments. Clients can repay any time with no early repayment penalty.

For BitDriver, that combination made sense: fast access to dollars, no need to sell bitcoin, and flexibility to repay on its own timeline.

The result: two vehicles bought in January 2026

In January 2026, BitDriver used a Ledn loan to help buy two vehicles.

The loan covered 50% of the total value of both vehicles. The rest had already been budgeted.

“The first ones covered 50% of the cost because that is what we were missing,” Napo said. “Everything else was already budgeted.”

Napo said the Ledn process was much faster than the bank route.

“The process was totally fast,” he said. “The approval, receipt of funds, and assignment of funds was in less than three hours. It was and is magic.”

The difference was clear.

A bank loan could take 20 to 25 days. The Ledn process took less than three hours, according to Napo.

“It is how we found the route,” he said. “We made the decision that we no longer needed a bank, because even if we met all the requirements, the process would take 20 to 25 days. With Ledn, that path becomes much shorter.”

BitDriver repaid the loan by February 2026.

The company is now preparing to use Ledn again to buy one more vehicle.

“We are about to make a new loan to buy one more,” Napo said. “The goal is that through loans, we can buy as many cars as we can and renew the fleet year after year.”

Responsible borrowing

Napo does not treat loans backed by bitcoin as free money.

He worked in banking, and that experience shapes how he uses credit. Before taking a loan, BitDriver sets a repayment plan. The company pays down loans weekly and monthly.

“Because I have banking experience, both personally and with BitDriver, when we take a loan with Ledn, we do it responsibly,” he said. “We assign ourselves a specific time to pay it off, so we can have more liquidity when we need another loan.”

For Napo, Ledn is a business tool.

It helps BitDriver access liquidity when it needs vehicles, while preserving the bitcoin the business has worked to save.

“As a company, it undoubtedly made us stronger,” Napo said. “It made it easier to solve our problem with tools, meaning vehicles. If we need something new, we take the loan and buy it.”

How Ledn loans backed by bitcoin work

  1. Use your bitcoin as collateral.
  2. Receive a loan in dollars or stablecoins, depending on availability.
  3. Keep bitcoin exposure instead of selling.
  4. No credit check.
  5. No required monthly payments.
  6. Repay any time with no early repayment penalty.
  7. Manage your LTV and collateral through the Ledn platform.

What BitDriver’s story shows

BitDriver started by accepting bitcoin for taxi rides.

Then bitcoin became the company’s main source of income.

Then Ledn helped BitDriver use that bitcoin as collateral for business growth.

Napo summed it up simply:

“I used a Ledn loan backed by bitcoin to access liquidity without selling my bitcoin, and I used that capital to grow BitDriver.”

For BitDriver, that meant buying two vehicles, reducing reliance on third party rentals, and preparing to expand the fleet again.

For other bitcoin holders, the message is clear: you do not have to sell bitcoin to access cash.

Loans backed by bitcoin carry risk. If the value of your collateral falls, you may need to add collateral or repay part of your loan to avoid liquidation. This post is for informational purposes only and is not financial, investment, tax, or legal advice.
