Crypto Savings Accounts: Compare Access, Yield & Risk

Ledn has over $11 billion in loan originations since 2018 and counting!
The best crypto savings account depends on the asset you hold, how the provider earns the yield and when you need your money back. A high advertised APY can depend on a fixed term, a loyalty token or a small promotional balance. More importantly, a crypto interest account is not an insured bank deposit. This comparison separates active providers from discontinued services and explains the trade-offs behind their offers.
Compare Ledn’s Growth and Transaction Accounts if you hold eligible USDC or USDT. If your goal is cash without selling Bitcoin rather than earning interest, explore Bitcoin-backed loans; borrowing has a cost and is not a savings return.
What is a Crypto Savings Account?
A crypto savings account is a common label for a product that pays a return on deposited digital assets. Usually the provider puts those assets to work through lending or another investment strategy. You receive yield in exchange for accepting that exposure, not simply for storing tokens in a wallet.
A custodial account removes some of the work of managing private keys, but replaces it with reliance on the provider, its security controls and its ability to meet withdrawals. Stablecoin accounts add exposure to the token issuer and dollar peg; Bitcoin accounts also carry Bitcoin price risk. Read our Bitcoin interest guide for the distinction between earning more BTC and earning a dollar return.
What Are The Top Crypto Savings Accounts?
Let’s take a look at some of the best crypto savings accounts and see what benefits they offer.
Ledn
Ledn offers USDC and USDT Growth Accounts to eligible clients. Its published rate schedule pays 5.00% APY on the first 100,000 of each supported stablecoin and 6.00% on the portion above 100,000. BTC and ETH Growth Accounts were retired in 2025, so historical Bitcoin and Ether savings rates are not current offers.
Growth Account interest comes from Ledn’s Bitcoin-backed retail lending book, rather than DeFi strategies or third-party institutional lending. Interest accrues daily and is paid monthly in the same asset. Transaction Accounts are separate, non-interest-bearing accounts for holding and account activity; moving assets into Growth changes their use and exposure.
Strengths: no minimum Growth balance; a specified lending-based source of yield; in-kind monthly payments; and product- and asset-level ring-fencing. Ledn also offers a separate trading service for eligible clients, allowing supported asset conversions without treating a Growth balance as unrestricted trading cash. Trading changes exposure and can involve fees and tax consequences. Ledn’s six-monthly Proof of Reserves lets clients verify inclusion in an independent point-in-time exercise, while the Open Book Report supplies defined monthly loan metrics.
Limitations: Growth is limited to eligible USDC and USDT balances. Ring-fencing and reporting do not eliminate credit, liquidity, operational or stablecoin risks. Growth-to-Transaction transfers normally take around 15 minutes; external withdrawals have separate processing and fees, including a 10-token USDC or USDT withdrawal fee under the current schedule. There is no bank-deposit insurance.
Availability is jurisdiction-specific. In Brazil, from October 30, 2026, new Growth deposits and redeposits stop, while existing balances continue earning. That restriction is regional, not a global closure of Growth Accounts.
Nexo
Nexo’s Flexible Savings offers a broad asset selection and daily compounding without a fixed lockup. Its public Flexible asset list shows up to 4.5% for BTC, 5% for ETH, 9.5% for USDT and 8.5% for USDC. Those are advertised maxima, not a promise that every balance receives them. Separate Fixed-term Savings offers exchange access for a defined term, with terms extending up to 12 months.
Strengths: multiple assets within one account, a choice of flexible or fixed structures and daily interest compounding. This may suit someone who wants to keep different crypto holdings with one provider rather than only stablecoins.
Limitations: the earning offer is subject to a $5,000 portfolio minimum, asset minimums and applicable account conditions. Loyalty status and payout choices can change the rate; holding a platform token creates an additional price exposure. Compare the exact asset and term rather than applying the highest advertised platform rate to every deposit. Residence and account eligibility also matter.
YouHodler
YouHodler’s yield account lists a wide selection of assets. Its public maximums include up to 18% for USDT and USDC, 9% for BTC and ETH, and 7% for PAXG. PAXG is gold-linked, not a dollar stablecoin. These are loyalty-dependent maximums and should not be treated as the starting rate available to every depositor.
Strengths: multiple asset choices and a yield service alongside other crypto tools. A user who already qualifies for a loyalty tier can compare the applicable yield with alternatives without assuming the public maximum is their rate.
Limitations: higher-tier conditions and the risks of any additional activity needed to qualify belong in the comparison. A leveraged trade undertaken to unlock a higher yield can lose more than the incremental interest earns. Product availability depends on residence. Neither the range of tools nor a high headline yield establishes capital protection.
Crypto.com
Crypto Earn supports more than 21 cryptocurrencies and offers different allocation terms. The applicable reward depends on the asset, amount, term, account conditions and CRO-related eligibility. The service is an earning product, not a conventional savings deposit.
Strengths: a broad selection of coins and the ability to compare flexible access with fixed terms. Its public page also describes an additional 1% p.a. reward in CRO for qualifying Private members, which is a separate reward asset rather than extra in-kind interest.
Limitations: a fixed term reduces access, and a higher tier may require exposure to CRO. Compare the return available on the amount you actually intend to allocate; do not assume a promotional or upper-tier figure applies to the entire balance. An extra reward paid in CRO can change in dollar value independently of the principal asset. Availability varies by jurisdiction.
KuCoin
KuCoin integrated its flexible earning products on August 1, 2026: Savings, Flexible and Crypto Lending Pro became Simple Earn Flexible, while fixed products remain separate. Supported assets include BTC, ETH, USDT and USDC among a wider selection.
Strengths: asset breadth and a consolidated flexible product can be useful to someone who already uses the exchange. Flexible and fixed products provide different access choices; neither should be confused with every other staking or structured product marketed under Earn.
Limitations: the yield and redemption mechanics are specific to the product and entity serving the account. For example, KuCoin EU’s published flexible-product terms describe a one-day redemption period, during which the redeemed amount does not earn, and its fixed product does not allow early redemption. Those EU terms should not be generalized to every KuCoin account. Historical BTC APRs are not current quotes.
StormGain: discontinued, not an active savings option
StormGain’s official notice says its services have permanently ceased and users were migrated to YouHodler from January 13, 2025. Its former savings offer, partner arrangements, daily interest and quoted 3–8% APYs therefore do not belong in an active shortlist.
The relevant action for an existing user is to identify the migrated account and applicable YouHodler conditions. A new depositor should compare YouHodler’s current offer directly instead of treating the two names as separate earning opportunities.
Bake.io: virtual-currency services suspended
Bake’s official notice states that all virtual-currency services were suspended from April 15, 2026 and virtual-currency balances were converted into US dollars. This is not an active staking or savings recommendation. Its former yield figures, asset selection and no-lockup claims cannot describe a new deposit today.
Existing users should follow the official balance and withdrawal process, including any disclosed processing or maintenance charges. Bake was a service provider offering access to crypto strategies; calling it simply a decentralized protocol obscured the custodial relationship that mattered to users.
CoinLoan: bankruptcy proceedings, not an active savings option
CoinLoan’s official bankruptcy update explains that a court-appointed trustee controls the estate and creditor process. Its former flexible accounts, monthly interest, minimum deposits and CLT-based rate boosts should not be treated as current offers.
For an existing creditor, the relevant questions concern the trustee’s claims and distributions process, not a new APY. This also illustrates why the ability to request a withdrawal in normal conditions is different from guaranteed access during insolvency.
Other historical failures need equally precise labels: BlockFi and Celsius entered bankruptcy, while Gemini Earn stopped operating and completed its final in-kind distribution in June 2024. Gemini Earn’s closure is not the same as saying the Gemini exchange ceased to exist.
How Does a Crypto Savings Account Work?
After completing the provider’s onboarding and confirming the supported network, you transfer the eligible asset and allocate it to the interest-bearing product. Merely leaving tokens in a transaction account may not activate earning. The product agreement determines when accrual starts, how often interest is paid and whether you must reinvest it.
In a lending-based product, borrowers pay interest for using capital; some of that income funds depositors’ yield. A staking service earns protocol rewards instead, and a liquidity pool may earn trading fees or token incentives. These mechanisms produce different risks even when all three are described as “savings.”
Compounding means subsequent returns can be earned on retained interest. APY expresses an annualized yield including an assumed compounding pattern; APR generally does not. A variable APY is not a one-year guarantee, and earning more tokens does not guarantee their dollar value rises. At an unchanged 5% APY, 10,000 USDC would earn about 500 USDC over one year before fees and tax, assuming the stated compounding and no balance changes.
Why Use a Crypto Interest Account?
People who hold their money for long periods enjoy turning to crypto savings accounts so that they can earn additional cash without having to engage in activities like trading. That being said, even some traders enjoy using savings accounts as they might have some crypto stored away that they rarely touch, but which they still want to grow.
A dollar-linked crypto balance can be useful to someone seeking dollar exposure where local-currency purchasing power is volatile. But an earning account is not a universal substitute for local banking: identity checks, residence restrictions, stablecoin access and withdrawal costs still apply. Yield and a dollar peg do not remove loss or access risks.
Custodial accounts also appeal to people who do not want sole responsibility for private keys. Losing a self-custody key can make assets unrecoverable; using a provider introduces account-recovery support but also provider and account-takeover risk. The choice is which responsibilities and risks you are willing to accept, not whether either arrangement eliminates them.
Crypto Savings Accounts Vs. Regular Savings Accounts
Both may display an interest rate and an account balance, but their legal protections differ. An eligible fiat deposit at an insured US bank can have FDIC coverage within the applicable limits and ownership categories. The FDIC does not insure crypto assets, and a crypto provider’s relationship with a bank does not insure the provider’s own failure.
Bank failure is possible: Silicon Valley Bank failed in March 2023. Deposit-insurance rules and the authorities’ treatment of that failure are different from the rights of a creditor in a crypto-company insolvency. A high crypto APY should not be compared with a bank APY as though the only difference were the size of the return.
The asset also matters. Bank savings are normally denominated in fiat; BTC savings change in dollar value with Bitcoin; USDC or USDT targets a dollar but depends on its issuer and market redemption arrangements. Compare withdrawal speed, fees, legal claim, insurance and currency exposure alongside the rate.
For money needed for near-term bills or emergencies, reliable access and applicable deposit protection can matter more than additional yield. Someone already holding digital assets may instead consider a crypto earning product for a portion they can afford to expose to its risks. Using both does not make their protections interchangeable. See crypto and inflation for the separate purchasing-power question.
Important Factors to Consider When Comparing Crypto Savings Accounts
There are several major factors to consider when looking for the best crypto interest account. Let’s delve into these!
The Interest Rates on Your Crypto Deposits
Compare the rate on your exact asset and balance, its compounding convention and whether it is variable. Ledn’s current stablecoin schedule applies 5.00% APY to the first 100,000 and 6.00% only to the excess. For a 150,000 balance held unchanged for a year, the simplified tier calculation is 5,000 + 3,000 = 8,000, or about 5.33% overall—not 6% on the entire balance. Account activity and changing rates affect actual earnings.
Fees for Deposits and Withdrawals
Some crypto and Bitcoin savings accounts charge a fee for deposits and withdrawals. These can range from being so small as to be nominal, up to being relatively significant. Keep these in mind because they can eat away at your potential earnings, especially if you are considering adding or subtracting a lot from your savings account. It’s somewhat implied in the name, but savings accounts are often set up to favor those who are willing to send a lump sum of their money over and then leave it alone for a prolonged time. They are not really the best tool for people who may want to regularly dip into their savings.
Your Chosen Platforms Reputation
When you open a savings account, you are essentially handing your money over to somebody else. This means that you should be extremely careful about who you do this with, and should only proceed if you significantly trust them. Take a look at the reputation of a platform by searching to see what people’s opinions are of them, and by checking if they are upfront about their legal and regulatory documentation. Some projects, such as Ledn, even go so far as to provide radical transparency in terms of their proof of reserves.
Are Crypto Savings & Interest Accounts Safe?
The principal risks are provider or borrower failure, withdrawal restrictions, operational or account-security failures, and the asset’s own price or peg risk. A malicious operator can also misappropriate assets. Transparency and reputation help with due diligence, but cannot guarantee repayment or identify every problem before a loss.
Evaluate the legal entity holding your claim, permitted asset use, financial and reserve disclosures, withdrawal conditions and account protections. A Proof of Reserves exercise addresses a defined scope at a point in time; it is not a promise that a business cannot later suffer losses. Likewise, ring-fencing separates specified exposures but does not make an interest-bearing product insolvency-proof.
For a broader checklist, read crypto lending risks. Do not treat avoiding active trading as eliminating investment risk.
Should You Use Crypto Savings Accounts?
An earning product may fit someone who already holds an eligible asset, understands how its yield is generated and can tolerate potential loss or delayed access. It is a poor fit for money that must remain available on demand or for someone assuming that the word “savings” guarantees principal.
Decide the asset first, then the source of return, then the access requirements. Do not buy an unfamiliar token or undertake leveraged trades solely to qualify for a higher headline APY. A smaller transparent return can be more suitable than a maximum that requires risks unrelated to your original goal.
Start with the account’s job
| Account or arrangement | Intended use | Principal distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Custodial yield account | Place eligible assets into an interest-generating arrangement | You take the product’s credit and liquidity exposure |
| Transaction or custody account | Hold, transfer or use supported assets | Holding does not itself produce lending income |
| DeFi supply position | Supply a particular on-chain market | Wallet, smart-contract and protocol conditions apply |
| Insured bank deposit | Hold eligible fiat deposits under the applicable scheme | Crypto assets are not insured merely because a provider uses a bank |
The FDIC’s deposit-insurance guidance explains the distinction for US coverage. Other jurisdictions have their own rules; do not assume a product’s savings label establishes protection.
Compare providers by structure
Ledn currently offers USDC and USDT Growth Accounts subject to eligibility. Its stablecoin funding is described as supporting BTC-backed retail loans. Check the current rate bands, terms and disclosures. BTC and ETH Growth Accounts were retired in 2025.
Nexo distinguishes Flexible and Fixed-term Savings. Evaluate the relevant asset, term and account conditions rather than treating all balances as the same offer.
Binance Earn offers multiple arrangements with product-specific conditions. Read the actual redemption rules before assuming a flexible or locked product meets your access needs.
If considering Aave, recognise that supplying a protocol is not opening a conventional custodial savings account. A wallet and network transactions are involved, and withdrawal liquidity matters.
Five fields for your shortlist
- Asset and network: is the exact token and transfer network supported?
- Return: what rate applies to your balance, and in which asset is it paid?
- Access: what lockup, review, fee or liquidity condition can affect withdrawal?
- Exposure: who can use the assets and who bears losses?
- Eligibility: is this exact product available to your residence and account type?
Preserve evidence of the offer and terms you accept. A screenshot of an APY is not a substitute for the agreement, but it can help you distinguish a temporary promotion from the continuing product.
What safeguards do not promise
Reserve reporting, security controls and segregation can be relevant to due diligence. None means a product cannot suffer a credit loss, depeg or interruption. Understand the scope of attestations and any insurance rather than assuming the entire balance is protected against every event.
Ledn’s non-yield account and Growth Account serve different purposes. Moving between them changes how the balance is used; it does not turn digital assets into government-insured deposits.
Compare stablecoin rates, read USDC versus USDT and review lending risks. Shortlist the account whose terms fit your need before deciding whether the yield compensates for its risks.

Conclusion
Compare active products on their actual structure, not on historical rate lists. Ledn focuses eligible Growth Accounts on USDC and USDT backed by income from its Bitcoin-backed retail lending book. Nexo, YouHodler, Crypto.com and KuCoin offer different asset ranges, terms and account conditions. StormGain, Bake and CoinLoan should not be treated as active alternatives.
Shortlist the asset and access pattern you need, calculate the net return after fees, and understand the legal and credit exposure before depositing. Review Ledn’s account options and compare stablecoin interest rates to continue.
