Crypto yield products may offer higher rates than traditional savings, but they involve meaningful risks and rates can change quickly. However, sifting through the many options on the market can be a headache. Thankfully, we have collated some of the crypto interest rates available in 2026, to help jumpstart your journey and investigation.
Important: Crypto yield products involve risk. Rates (APY/APR) are variable and not guaranteed. Loss of principal is possible. Stablecoins can depeg. CeFi products involve custody/counterparty risk; DeFi involves smart-contract, oracle, governance, and network risks. Availability and terms vary by jurisdiction and may change.
Compare Ledn’s USDC and USDT Growth terms for an account-based option with a disclosed Bitcoin-backed retail funding model. BTC and ETH Growth are retired.
Cryptocurrency Interest Rates
Compare the asset and mechanism before the percentage. This table was checked on 26 October 2026 and separates current account quotes from on-chain rates that belong to a specific deployment. The quotes belong to the named asset and product; rates can change.
APY includes the stated compounding effect; APR does not. A quoted maximum may require a particular account tier, reward currency, term or balance. DeFi supply returns vary with the actual market and available liquidity.
| Provider | Asset | Current rate/status | Return basis | Key condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ledn | USDT | 5% first 100,000; 6% excess APY | Daily accrual/monthly in-kind payment | Eligible Growth; marginal tiers |
| Ledn | USDC | 5% first 100,000; 6% excess APY | Same marginal APY structure | BTC/ETH Growth retired |
| Aave | WBTC | Market-specific supply rate | Protocol supply quote | Wrapped BTC adds wrapper dependencies; not BTC staking |
| Aave | ETH/WETH | Market-specific supply rate | Lending return, not validator rewards | Identify network and reserve |
| Aave | USDT | Variable market supply rate | Utilization/parameters govern | Withdrawal liquidity matters |
| Aave | USDC | Variable market supply rate | Utilization/parameters govern | Do not transfer another network's quote |
| Nexo | BTC | Flexible public list: up to 4.5% annually | Daily payout/compounding | Loyalty, account and payout conditions |
| Nexo | ETH | Flexible public list: up to 5% annually | Daily payout/compounding | Fixed-term offer may differ |
| Nexo | USDT | Flexible public list: up to 9.5% annually | Daily payout/compounding | Maximum not universal |
| Nexo | USDC | Flexible public list: up to 8.5% annually | Daily payout/compounding | Reward currency affects comparison |
| Compound | WBTC | Version/market-specific; no III collateral interest | Check the specific version’s base-asset support | A collateral token is not automatically an earning base asset |
| Compound | ETH/WETH | Base-asset market or collateral role differs | Specific deployment required | III only pays interest on its base asset |
| Compound | USDT | Version/market-specific | Current quote depends on deployment | Verify whether supplying base asset or collateral |
| Compound | USDC | Variable base-asset supply return | III market-specific rate | Identify deployment, liquidity and net costs |
Note: Unusually high advertised rates can indicate higher risk, leverage, illiquidity, or less transparent practices. Always review how yield is generated and what protections apply.
Why Are Crypto Interest Rates Higher Than Traditional Interest Rates?
Crypto interest is not universally higher than bank interest. A meaningful comparison uses the same currency, period and principal while accounting for different protections and return sources.
Funding demand, capital supply, provider costs and credit exposure all affect the return. It is not enough to assume that fewer offices or employees make a lender able to pay more. A lower-cost business can still have weak borrowers or insufficient withdrawal liquidity.
Another reason is the interest offered is sometimes connected to the increased risk involved. The perspective is that opening a savings account with these assets is higher risk than with fiat (such as the US dollar), and so there is a higher reward associated with it.
Stablecoin returns still involve risk. A dollar-linked token can reduce exposure to BTC price swings but adds issuer and redemption dependencies; lending it creates a further repayment relationship. Strong borrowing demand can raise rates without making that relationship risk-free.
Traders, market makers and other borrowers use stablecoins for liquidity, while retail borrowers may use them to finance expenses against crypto collateral. Which borrowers actually fund your return matters more than a general claim that stablecoins are always in demand. Rates can fall when available supply grows faster than borrowing.
Crypto Interest Rates Pros and Cons
We’ve looked at some of the rates on offer, but it is a good idea to contextualize our discussion by assessing the positives and drawbacks that come with saving in the crypto industry.
Pros
- High Yields: As you have seen, there are some high yields on offer. This is especially the case with stablecoins. Therefore, saving with crypto can often offer higher returns than doing so with fiat.
- Variety of Assets: Earning products exist for many cryptocurrencies, but supported assets and suitable products vary. This naturally includes leaders like BTC, ETH, USDC, and USDT, but it is also possible to do so with lesser-known and niche altcoins. For day-traders and people who enjoy exploring some of the less popular coins and tokens on the market, this is a huge benefit as it means they can put their cryptocurrency to greater use, where an appropriate product actually supports that asset.
- Compound Interest: Many savings account services offer compound interest, which means that you earn interest on the interest you have already gained. To make use of it, simply open one of Ledn’s Growth Accounts, which allows you to gain compound interest on your USDT and USDC.
Cons
- Platform Risks: When you are gaining interest on crypto, you must engage with a platform or service of some sort; you need to hand your assets over to them. Doing so naturally comes with some inherent risks, as you are relying on a third party to be a custodian for or manage your cryptocurrency. If you pick the wrong project, then it could malfunction (if it is a DeFi platform), or it could become insolvent or bankrupt (if you pick a CeFi company).
- Even if you decide to earn interest by staking directly on a blockchain, there is a risk that the network will become faulty in some capacity. DeFi networks come with an additional danger of smart contract hacks, where the mechanisms underpinning the network’s architecture are forcibly broken. This is not uncommon. Historical incidents illustrate different failure modes. Cetus’s May 2025 report describes a CLMM pool exploit involving a library overflow-check error. Radiant’s October 2024 postmortem puts its loss at approximately $50 million and describes compromised developer devices and signing infrastructure. SharkTeam’s transaction analysis estimates roughly $19.3 million lost in UwU Lend’s June 10, 2024 attack. These are specific incidents, not representative outcomes for every DeFi market.
- One approach some users choose to mitigate this is to pick a service with a strong track record for reliability, and risk-management and disclosure practices intended to reduce certain risks, such as Ledn.
- Regulatory and eligibility changes: A named platform may offer several legally distinct earning products. Coinbase's current USDC Rewards is a loyalty programme funded by Coinbase, not the same as lending USDC into Morpho. Its public help page lists multiple eligible regions and account-specific conditions, including Coinbase One requirements in certain markets. Do not use an old launch or enforcement story as a current worldwide availability list.
- Volatility Risk: If you are gaining interest on an asset like BTC or ETH, then they are very likely going to experience rises and falls during that time. These coins, much like every non-stablecoin asset in the market, are known for sharp fluctuations. Therefore, the value of your savings are likely to bounce up and down often. While the interest you earn can help soften the blow when it comes to low periods, it may not actually offset any losses, should the asset drop. Even stablecoins carry some volatility risk, as they occasionally depeg at times, but it is fair to say they are much more consistent in their worth.
- Limited Withdrawals: Some services limit your ability to access your assets. This is standard practice, as savings and yield-generating projects work on the basis that you will reliably leave a sizeable amount of your cryptocurrency with them for a prolonged period of time. Withdrawal limits and processing times vary by product and may change; refer to current terms. Some other services are much more restrictive.
Is Earning Interest on Crypto Safe?
Like every aspect of the crypto market, there are some risks involved when earning interest on these assets (mostly listed above). Risk profiles differ. Some yield strategies may be less volatile than active trading, but losses are still possible. Nevertheless, it is smart to consider the potential pitfalls and complications that can arise, simply so that you have a full picture of what you are agreeing to.
The US GENIUS Act became law in July 2025. Its issuer-yield restriction concerns specified issuers paying holders solely for holding, using or retaining a payment stablecoin. It should not be interpreted as universal approval of every third-party yield account or a blanket prohibition on DeFi. The activity, legal entity and jurisdiction matter.
Where Do Crypto Yields Come From?
The interest you earn on crypto, referred to as yield, can come from a range of locations.
Lending to Institutional Borrowers
Some CeFi lenders fund institutions such as trading firms; others fund retail loans. Ledn's stablecoin Growth funding currently supports its Bitcoin-collateralized retail loan book. Distinguish the borrower's actual activity, collateral and concentration instead of assuming that institutional participation is always safer.
Pros:
- Institutional borrowers can create substantial demand for capital, supporting lending revenue when repayment and collateral performance meet the agreement
- Institutional borrower information can support due diligence when financial capacity, collateral and concentration are disclosed.
Cons:
- If a CeFi service is heavily reliant on a small set of institutional clients, then it creates an unstable future for those seeking interest accounts.
Liquidity Pools
Lending pools earn borrower interest; DEX liquidity pools earn trading fees and may distribute incentives. These are different structures. Loan collateral is not automatically the pool's lent capital. For example, Compound III pays supply interest on its base asset, while collateral posted to borrow that asset does not earn interest.
Pros:
- Can provide access to a range of altcoins, many which might not have enough demand to attract high-net worth institutional borrowers.
- A proven method of bootstrapping DeFi projects.
Cons:
- Liquidity pools are rarely static, so APY fluctuates significantly, making rewards more volatile.
- Liquidity pools are often the target of smart contract hacks, which can indefinitely halt rewards, or cause the loss of user funds.
Staking
Proof-of-stake networks reward validation using their staking asset. Ethereum solo staking requires 32 ETH and operational infrastructure; pooled routes can accept smaller amounts but add dependencies. Rewards depend on network conditions and validator performance, and access can involve queues or service rules.
Companies sometimes use the assets in your savings or growth accounts to provide liquidity to markets, make investments, or lend them out to others (with the interest those participants pay contributing to your returns). This is the case for both CeFi and DeFi projects.
Network staking rewards are different from lending interest or DEX fees. Bitcoin uses proof of work and has no native proof-of-stake yield. Stablecoins issued on Ethereum do not become validator-staking assets merely because they use that chain.
Pros:
- Supports the network, helping it stay alive and thriving.
- Rewards follow the network's rules; inspect the actual validation mechanics and penalties rather than treating a development team's involvement as a safety guarantee.
Cons:
- Staked funds face network exit queues or provider-specific access rules; liquid staking tokens add market-price and contract dependencies.
- If the blockchain breaks, your funds could disappear (or they could dramatically lose their value as a result of the breakage).
CeFi vs DeFi Crypto Interest: Tradeoffs & Risks
The CeFi and DeFi landscape offer wildly different experiences for earning interest and yield farming.
Custodial vs Non-Custodial
With a custodial account, the provider administers funds under a customer agreement. Examine asset-use permissions and who owes repayment. Legal ownership and insolvency rights cannot be inferred only from whether the interface is called CeFi.
With DeFi, you retain wallet keys while supplied assets are committed to contracts. Upgrade controls, oracle settings, governance and liquidity can limit practical access. A decentralized label does not establish that developers or administrators have no influence over any component.
Traditional vs Experimental
Centralized lending resembles a familiar credit arrangement: a company receives capital, deploys it and pays under agreed terms. The history of lending does not make every provider proven. A disclosed borrower model and reports let you investigate how that particular business works.
DeFi protocols use publicly inspectable contracts for lending, trading and other strategies. Staking secures a proof-of-stake network and should be evaluated separately from protocol lending. Public code can help analysis, but a defect, compromised dependency or flawed economic design can still cause losses.
Consistency vs Volatility
An account provider may change rates on a published schedule or offer a fixed term, which can make cash-flow planning more straightforward. Variable accounts still reprice. A fixed rate defines the payment formula, not a guarantee of principal recovery or immediate withdrawal.
A variable-rate protocol can reprice with utilization and market parameters throughout the day. That offers visibility into current conditions, but the displayed annualized rate is not a promise for the next year. Fixed-term protocols are a separate category; do not generalize one pool's behaviour to all DeFi.
Compare net return and downside instead of inventing a risk score
APY tells you the annualized payment under stated assumptions, not the chance of recovering principal. A made-up score combining audits, reputation and a low-rate benchmark cannot validate which offer is safest. Those factors have different meanings and should remain visible in the comparison.
Start with a cost calculation you can actually defend. On a hypothetical 10,000-token balance, an extra percentage point of annual yield adds 100 tokens over a year under constant conditions. If entry and exit cost 60 tokens, only 40 remain from that advantage before taxes or losses. For a three-month holding period, the approximate gross advantage is only 25 tokens, so those fixed costs exceed it.
Next test a downside independently. A hypothetical 10% principal loss is 1,000 tokens on that balance—ten years of the extra one-point gross return, ignoring compounding. This is not a probability forecast; it shows why a small rate improvement should not obscure principal exposure.
- Identify the borrower or contract that owes the return.
- Read the audit or attestation scope and reporting date.
- Examine collateral, concentration, withdrawal liquidity and legal recovery rights.
- Separate a temporary token incentive from cash or stablecoin interest.
- Check the operational work and cost of moving the position.
A product can then be compared on its actual benefits and trade-offs. The result is a decision record, not a synthetic safety number.
Where Can I Get a Return on My Crypto?
Regional eligibility: Ledn’s Brazil notice says new Growth deposits and re-deposits stop from 30 October 2026 for Brazil clients; existing balances continue earning. This is a regional restriction, not a global retirement of Growth.
Some users choose interest-bearing accounts to seek yield, but outcomes depend on rates, terms, fees, and platform risk. Consider diversification and only allocate what you can afford to lose.
For eligible USDC and USDT holders, Ledn Growth is an account-based route. Its current schedule gives 5% APY on the first 100,000 units and 6% on the excess. The funding model is Bitcoin-collateralized retail lending, with daily accrual and monthly payment in kind.
Ledn's Risk Management Practices: Collateralization, Attestations, and User Protections
Ledn's product-specific Growth entities separate USDC and USDT activity; funding supports retail Bitcoin-backed loans rather than DeFi farming. Six-monthly Proof of Reserves lets clients verify balance inclusion at a snapshot. Open Book provides separately defined lending metrics, not an audit opinion. These are concrete information advantages for evaluating the model without claiming they eliminate all risk.
Compare the mechanism before the percentage
| Route | What generates a return | What the rate does not tell you |
|---|---|---|
| Stablecoin lending | Borrower interest and product economics | Whether the peg holds or the counterparty repays |
| BTC lending | A counterparty pays to use BTC | Whether principal can be recovered during stress |
| Proof-of-stake participation | Network rewards under protocol rules | The future dollar value of the reward token |
| Liquidity provision | Trading fees and potentially incentives | Price-divergence losses, exit costs or contract failures |
Holding Bitcoin itself does not generate native staking income. A BTC yield arrangement adds another activity and its risks. Converting BTC into a stablecoin to earn interest also changes your market exposure and can have tax consequences.
Providers and products worth distinguishing
Ledn Growth is a USDC/USDT lending-account option for eligible clients. The current legal schedule lists 5% APY on the first 100,000 units and 6% on the excess. The upper tier is not a whole-balance rate. Current account terms govern.
Nexo Savings offers Flexible and Fixed-term products across assets. Compare the quote for your asset and account, including loyalty, payout and term conditions; do not import a maximum advertised for a different asset.
Binance Earn includes several product types. Flexible, Locked and staking arrangements should not be collapsed into one rate or withdrawal promise.
Aave supply is market-specific. Select the asset and network before examining the live supply rate, available liquidity and transaction costs. It is not a bank savings account or a fixed annual offer.
Calculate the return you can retain
Distinguish APR from APY and identify the reward currency. APY already includes the stated compounding effect. A token-denominated reward does not guarantee the same dollar return if the token price moves.
Include entry and exit costs, balance caps, promotional duration and any requirement to hold another token. For a short holding period, fixed transfer costs can outweigh a modest APY advantage. For a large balance, marginal tiers may matter more than the headline maximum.
Do not assign a made-up risk score and treat the resulting number as a validated risk-adjusted return. Read the legal exposure, yield source and withdrawal provisions directly.
Match the product to the money’s purpose
Capital needed for a known expense should not be committed to a lockup or loss exposure you cannot accommodate. A flexible withdrawal feature also does not remove the possibility of a review, market disruption or provider failure.
Use stablecoin interest rates for the USDC/USDT comparison, Bitcoin interest for BTC-specific trade-offs, and lending risks before choosing. The best fit is the structure you understand and can afford to use, not necessarily the largest advertised yield.
